About
Tempura Matsui opened in 2015 on East 39th Street with chef-owner Masato Matsui, who trained in Japan's traditional tempura tradition before bringing the discipline to New York. The restaurant earned a Michelin star for its exacting tempura omakase, in which each ingredient is fried to order in fresh sesame oil and served without delay. It remains one of a very small number of dedicated tempura omakase rooms in North America.
