About
Takeo Oyama opened the original Sushi Oyama on Donghu Road in 2010, creating Shanghai's first true omakase sushi restaurant — a watershed moment for Japanese fine dining in the city. After closing in 2018, he returned in September 2025 with a new counter at the Xintiandi Galleria. Oyama's style bridges traditional Japanese technique and contemporary flair: his love of torched akami tuna, his energy at the counter, and the legendary communal kanpai with regulars make every visit an event. With an omakase starting at 980 RMB, he sets an unusually accessible price point for quality at this level.
