About
Numata Sou opened in June 2024 as the first international outpost of the Osaka tempura institution Numata — whose flagship in Kitashinchi holds two Michelin stars. Founder Kazuya Numata dispatched head chef Yuta Sakata to bring decades of refined tempura artistry from Nishitenma to Shanghai. The restaurant, situated in the historic Bund Finance Centre, received Michelin Selected status in the 2025 Shanghai guide within its very first year of operation, quickly establishing itself as one of the most sought-after omakase experiences along the Huangpu waterfront. The kitchen works exclusively with carefully sourced ingredients — among them tiger prawns, shark fin, and tuna with wasabi-chive oil.
