About
Narisawa Shanghai opened in July 2023 as the world-renowned chef Yoshihiro Narisawa's first restaurant outside Japan — his Tokyo flagship in Minami-Aoyama has held two Michelin stars and a place on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list for years. The Shanghai outpost earned a Michelin star in both the 2025 and 2026 Shanghai guides, a rare distinction for such a young restaurant. Having operated his Tokyo table exclusively for more than two decades, Narisawa created a menu in Shanghai that marries Japanese Satoyama philosophy with predominantly Chinese ingredients, celebrating the intimate bond between people and nature. His iconic 'Bread of the Forest' — fermented and baked tableside in a stone pot — has become the symbol of an omakase experience unlike any other.

Narisawa Shanghai sits in Putuo, one of Shanghai's neighborhoods where authentic Japanese kitchens have taken root.
