About
Alexander Reinelt, Japanologist and founder of SUSHIYA GmbH, opened sansaro in the Amalienpassage in the heart of Munich's university quarter in 2007. The name 'sansaro' means 'three-way crossing' in Japanese — an apt reference to the junction of Türkenstraße, Amalienstraße and Adalbertstraße. A wholly Japanese kitchen team under head chef Riichiro Matsui crafts organic and hand-selected ingredients into immaculate edomae sushi and the seasonal omakase menu 'Journey to Japan'. Since 2022, the Michelin Guide has listed sansaro as Selected, explicitly praising its outstanding sake selection and washoku approach.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Michelin Selected since 2022 — Munich's most established Japanese sushi institution
- Seasonal omakase menu 'Journey to Japan' — five courses with sake pairing
- Idyllic courtyard terrace in the Amalienpassage — complete with Japanese maple trees
- Outstanding sake and Japanese whisky selection
