About
Named after the historic bridge district in Tokyo, Nihonbashi is one of Vienna's established Japanese-owned restaurants, operated by Japanese owners and staff on the city's prime Kärntner Straße shopping boulevard. Chef Taiyo-san from Hokkaido oversees a menu encompassing fresh sushi, sashimi and izakaya-style small plates. The restaurant is noted as the training ground where sushi master Hiroki Takahashi (now at SHIKI Omakase) spent nearly a decade as sous chef before his move to Vienna's most exclusive Japanese counter. Multiple reviewers confirm Japanese ownership and the restaurant remains active as of late 2025.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
  • Japanese-owned and Japanese-staffed restaurant on Vienna's most central boulevard

  • Prime Kärntner Straße location — perfect for sushi before or after Vienna's opera and concert houses
