About
Sanraku San Jose Oakridge is the Silicon Valley outpost of a Japanese restaurant group that has been part of Northern California's dining scene since 1989. Owner Hiro Hattori — who came from Japan over 30 years ago to help his mother open a Japanese restaurant in San Francisco — built Sanraku on the philosophy that every detail, from the Japan-trained chefs to the premium Japanese seasonings and fish, should reflect the standards of dining in Japan itself. The organization was interviewed by JETRO as a showcase for authentic Japanese food culture in the United States. The Oakridge restaurant opened in 2016 to serve a Silicon Valley clientele that Hattori describes as increasingly Japan-savvy, with many customers who have visited Japan multiple times and know what real sushi tastes like. Monthly omakase courses crafted by an executive chef complement the regular menu of sushi, sashimi, tempura, and Japanese entrées.
Why it's on Washoku Guide

  • All chefs across Sanraku restaurants are recruited from Japan and professionally trained in Japanese cuisine, ensuring consistency with the standards of dining in Japan.
  • Monthly rotating omakase menus featuring seasonal local harvest and direct-from-Japan ocean products elevate this mall-adjacent restaurant well beyond typical shopping-center sushi.
