About
Chef-owner Akira Yoshizumi trained across three countries — Kyoto, New York, and Tokyo — before completing his education under Edomae master Takumi Okabe, who had over 45 years of sushi experience. He opened Sushi Yoshizumi in San Mateo in 2015 and quickly earned a Michelin star, which he held until 2024 when the restaurant transitioned to Michelin Recommended status. The omakase is served at an 8-seat cypress wood counter in two nightly seatings, proceeding through approximately 20 courses of pristine nigiri, sashimi, and cooked dishes rooted in the Edomae tradition. At $325 per person, it remains the Bay Area's benchmark for Japanese omakase craft. Reservations are released every Wednesday at 9pm Pacific for bookings two weeks out on Tock.
