About
Kono opened in April 2022 at 46 Bowery, Canal Arcade, after chef-owner Atsushi Kono departed Yakitori Torishin where he had earned seven consecutive Michelin stars. Kono runs a 16-course omakase over Kishu binchōtan for 14 seats and an additional four-seat whisky bar hidden beyond the main room. The restaurant has received three stars from the New York Times, a James Beard nomination (Best Chef NY State 2024–25), and ranked #23 on North America's 50 Best in 2025.
Neighborhood & visiting
Kono sits in Chinatown, one of New York's neighborhoods where authentic Japanese kitchens have taken root. Reservations are available online — for a focused yakitori counter this is strongly recommended. Check the posted hours before you go — traditional yakitori restaurants often close between service periods.
