About
Naumi Carvajal Uemura carries her Japanese father's surname and his culinary culture: born in Madrid but deeply connected to Japanese food through her paternal heritage, she pursued traditional Japanese cookery with a dedication that led her to the highest competitive stage. In 2023 she became the first Spaniard ever to win the Washoku World Challenge, a global cooking competition sanctioned by the Japanese government to promote traditional Japanese cuisine. The recognition cemented a career that had already included a third-place finish at the Asian Culinary Awards, a Global Sushi Challenge final and appointment as a Japanese Ministry of Agriculture Food Supporter and Ambassador. At her restaurant in Prosperidad, she runs both a kitchen and a Japanese cooking school, making Uemura a centre of Japanese culinary culture in Madrid that extends well beyond a single meal.
