About
Since 2007, chef-owner Ryo Iwase — a native of Nagoya, Japan who relocated to Dallas in 1981 — has made Masami one of the most respected Japanese restaurants in Richardson. The restaurant draws a loyal following of Japanese expatriates and discerning locals who appreciate traditional preparations including Akauo Kasuzuke (sake-marinated grilled red fish), duck soba, and daily sashimi specials. Sitting at the intimate sushi bar is highly recommended: guests can converse in Japanese with the chefs and watch each piece be crafted to order. The CORE District celebrated Masami's 18th anniversary in June 2025, a testament to its enduring place in the community.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Japanese chef-owner from Nagoya with decades of experience — Japanese staff and Japanese-speaking clientele
- Rare traditional items like Akauo Kasuzuke (sake-marinated grilled red fish) not found elsewhere in Dallas
- Intimate sushi bar seating lets you interact directly with skilled Japanese chefs
- 18-year track record in Richardson's CORE District with consistently high ratings from regulars
Borderline re-verification: Multiple 2024 Yelp reviewers confirm owner Ryo is present and Japanese, staff speak Japanese. CORE District Instagram (June 2025) celebrates 18 years. Earlier Reddit reports of ownership transfer (circa 2013) appear inaccurate per current evidence. Including as confirmed authentic.
