About
Founded in 1998 by Tokyo-born chef Teiichi Sakurai and passed to Japanese chef-owner Katsutoshi Sakamoto — who served as original executive chef — Tei Tei Robata Bar has been a cornerstone of Dallas's Japanese dining scene for more than a quarter century. Sakamoto, who met Sakurai at aviation school in Amarillo, has maintained the restaurant's Japanese identity and was the first in Texas to serve wagyu beef on the rock imported from Japan. The binchotan charcoal robata grill delivers smoky, exquisite preparations of seafood, meats, and vegetables alongside refined sushi and sashimi. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2023, Tei Tei remains fully Japanese-owned and Japanese-chef-led, a rarity in Texas's Japanese dining landscape.
