About
Opened quietly in April 2022 in San Francisco's Japantown, Yuji is the city's only kappo restaurant — a format rooted in the Japanese art of cutting and cooking, occupying a space between the formality of kaiseki and the conviviality of an izakaya. Japanese-born chef-owner Hiroyuki 'Hiro' Suzuki brings a background in teppanyaki and deep familiarity with seasonal Japanese ingredients to a nine-seat counter where courses are crafted around what is freshest each evening. The Michelin Guide recognized Yuji as a Michelin Plate restaurant in its 2025 California edition, affirming the restaurant's standing as one of the most singular and personal dining experiences in the city. Reservations are made exclusively through Tock.
