About
Marie Akaneya opened in May 2023 as a branch of the celebrated Akaneya Group from Japan, bringing sumibiyaki (charcoal grilling) to Paris for the first time. Located on rue Godot-de-Mauroy near La Madeleine, the restaurant is designed by architect Chiho Murata and Kyoto Tachibana University professor Arno Suzuki in the spirit of Japanese functional minimalism — rice paper lanterns, natural materials, intimate tatami semi-private rooms. The menu revolves around meat from Ito Ranch in Mie Prefecture, Japan's most decorated Matsusaka Beef producer, which is grilled tableside over binchotan charcoal. Marie Akaneya is also the first establishment in France (and one of only three in Europe) to serve Fukuroi's Crown Melon, and has been listed in the Michelin Guide France.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
  • The only restaurant in France serving Ito Ranch Matsusaka Beef, widely considered Japan's finest beef, grilled tableside over binchotan charcoal.
  • A direct import of authentic Japanese sumibiyaki culture — an experience impossible to replicate elsewhere in Paris.
  • The Kyoto-inspired dining room, with tatami rooms and rice paper lanterns, transports diners to Japan in the heart of the 9th arrondissement.
  • Michelin Guide listed since opening, a rare distinction for a Japanese BBQ-style restaurant.

Reservations required; first shift (before 21:30) is 2h30 maximum. First sumibiyaki in Paris. Also serves Fukuroi Crown Melon (one of only 3 European venues). Call +33 9 87 52 36 38 to book.
