About
Okan South Bank is the second permanent site opened by Moto, who left Osaka for London in 1998 and built the Okan concept from a Brick Lane market stall into a multi-site south London institution. Squeezed into a compact space inside the historic County Hall on Belvedere Road, the restaurant seats around 25 including a grill-facing counter and serves the same Osaka street food at its heart: okonomiyaki, omu yakisoba, gyoza, donburi and Japanese tapas-style otsumami. The South Bank location places it squarely in the tourist corridor near the London Eye and Waterloo station. No Michelin recognition.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Atmospheric County Hall setting — Osaka street food in a grand historic building
- Founded by Moto from Osaka — genuine Kansai culinary heritage
- Affordable, non-sushi Japanese food in the tourist-heavy South Bank
