About
Akira opened in June 2018 as the centrepiece dining experience within Japan House London, the cultural flagship established by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Kensington High Street to promote Japanese arts, design and cuisine. Chef director Akira Shimizu — formerly of Engawa and trained within Japan's renowned Salt Group restaurant chain — leads a kitchen that represents 'the trinity of cooking': fine ingredients, exceptional tableware, and presentation as art. The open kitchen, anchored by a traditional charcoal robata grill, produces asparagus-and-bacon skewers, chicken and shiso meatballs, Wagyu steak courses, and creative sushi specialities, all served with the formal welcome of 'Irrashaimase'. Michelin-selected in the Great Britain & Ireland guide, Akira is one of the most culturally significant Japanese dining rooms in London.
