About
Bistro Japonais Furusato is one of Montreal's most genuinely authentic Japanese addresses — a cozy bistro on Rue Beaubien Est operated by chef-owners Sasaki-san and his wife, who emigrated from Japan and previously worked in the restaurant industry there. The name 'furusato' (ふるさと) translates to 'hometown' in Japanese, capturing the warm, personal spirit of the place. The menu is a love letter to Japanese culinary culture: fresh sushi and sashimi, nabemono (Japanese hot pot), udon and rice bowls, yakitori, karaage chicken, agedashi tofu, and excellent tempura. The restaurant relocated from its original Bleury Street location to Beaubien Est after 2020 and continues to draw regulars who prize its authenticity and value. Reservations are strongly recommended as the dining room is small and fills quickly.
