About
Chef-owner Junya Watanabe was born in Tokyo and apprenticed under three prestigious Japanese ramen masters before establishing RakiRaki on San Diego's Convoy Street in 2012. The restaurant quickly became a neighborhood anchor, valued for its rich, carefully developed tonkotsu broth and its tsukemen — a dipping ramen style where noodles are served separately from a concentrated broth. RakiRaki's late-night hours until 1 a.m. make it a destination for industry workers and night owls alike. Over more than a decade, Watanabe has expanded thoughtfully while maintaining the quality that made RakiRaki one of San Diego's most recognized ramen destinations.
