About
Kayo Asazu launched Daruma Ramen in 2013, inspired by growing up in Japan and wanting to share Japanese chicken broth ramen with Austin. The restaurant closed permanently at its East Sixth Street location during the COVID-19 pandemic in June 2020. In July 2025, the Darumaramen.com website announced that Daruma Ramen will reopen in spring 2026 at a new East Austin home at 3706 Goodwin Ave. As part of the Asazu family's broader Japanese culinary ecosystem — which includes Komé, Uroko, and Sa-Tén — the reopened Daruma represents a homecoming for one of Austin's original Japanese-owned ramen concepts.
