About
Shiraki is Athens' most historically significant Japanese restaurant in terms of direct Japanese kitchen heritage. Chef Shinya Shiraki previously ran the legendary Furin Kazan (風林火山) at Apollonos 2 — the first restaurant in Athens to be staffed by a Japanese chef — before reopening under his own name on Nikis Street in the Syntagma district. The menu is deliberately traditional: nigiri, sashimi, chirashi, maki rolls, udon, donburi and tonkatsu, plus tori karaage, all made to classical Japanese standards. A curated warm and cold sake list distinguishes the drinks offer. The small, cosy dining room — with occasional outdoor seating — maintains the unpretentious atmosphere of a genuine Japanese neighbourhood restaurant. Reviewers consistently single out the nattō availability, the quality of the fish and the exceptional value.
