About
Yuwa is a deeply personal restaurant. Chef-owner Masahiro Omori, born and raised in Chiba, Japan, named it after his grandmother, who ran a fish market for over 50 years. Trained at a long-established kaiseki restaurant in Tokyo, Omori brings that classical rigour to a Kitsilano room whose chic interior gives way to food that is unambiguously Japanese. The menu shifts daily to reflect what is freshest, and dishes are presented without fusion conceit—the Michelin Guide notes there are no external influences, only purity. Co-owner Iori Kataoka is a Certified Advanced Sake Professional who has curated one of Vancouver's finest sake selections. Yuwa received the Vancouver Magazine Gold Award for Best Japanese in 2022 and maintains Michelin Recommended status.
