About
Xime (西目) opened in 2017 on Changle Road, founded by Japanese chef Jun Nishio from Kobe and British co-founder Sam Norris (formerly of Wishbone). Nishio brings years of experience in Shanghai Japanese restaurants — including advisory work for the Maguro Takewaka group — and with Xime created an honest, pressure-free kitchen that sits between izakaya tradition and modern creative spirit. The restaurant offers refined lunch sets with udon and soba during the day, and a lively izakaya menu of sashimi, hotpot, and seasonal specials in the evening.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Authentic Japanese chef from Kobe — with a modern Shanghai perspective
- Relaxed izakaya atmosphere without fine-dining pressure — perfect for any occasion
- Seasonal sashimi platters and house-made Japanese comfort dishes
- Udon and soba at lunch, izakaya fare at dinner — Japanese dining all day long
Xime is also designed as an exhibition and events space — a hybrid of restaurant and creative venue.
