Yakiniku Yokocho is the flagship yakiniku restaurant of Yokohama-born Japanese chef and managing director Kazuki Arai, located on Level 9 of Regent Place in the Sydney CBD. The concept re-creates the charged, neon-lit energy of Japan's BBQ alleyways, where diners self-grill premium wagyu and seasonal meats at table-top grills.

About
Kazuki Arai grew up in Yokohama, where his grandfather ran a dining bar that exemplified the informality and camaraderie of Japanese alleyway culture. At Yakiniku Yokocho, he has transplanted that culture into the heart of Sydney's CBD, occupying a corner of Regent Place that has been fitted out with imported vending machines, neon signage, and the kind of low-key, bustling density associated with Tokyo's Shinjuku Yokocho. As head chef and managing director, Arai personally selects the premium meats — including Kobe boneless short ribs, LA kalbi, premium short ribs, and outside skirt — that diners self-grill on gas grills at the table. The SBS Food profile describes the restaurant as 'charmingly no-frills and mildly chaotic', which is precisely the point. A second venue in Burwood serves the western suburbs community.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Yokohama-born owner-chef Kazuki Arai personally hand-picks all premium meats, drawing directly on his Japanese upbringing and family dining culture.
- The Regent Place setting — designed by Vie Studio to replicate Japan's alleyway BBQ energy — is among Sydney's most immersive Japanese dining environments.
- Arai's hands-on approach as both managing director and head chef ensures authenticity standards are maintained across both the CBD and Burwood venues.
Two locations: Regent Place CBD (flagship) and Burwood. The Regent Place venue shares Level 9 with Yakitori Yokocho, Izakaya Uomichi, and Edomae Sushi Yokocho — all part of Arai's growing Regent Place Japanese dining cluster.
