About
Designed around the Japanese ritual of eating at the counter, Koromo by Jazushi offers a relaxed but considered kushikatsu experience in Pyrmont's emerging dining precinct, steps from The Star and Darling Harbour. Chef-owner Yutaro Takashima's meticulous panko-coating technique produces light, greaseless kushikatsu across a wide range of proteins, vegetables, and seasonal specials, while co-owner and beverage director Yuki Ishikawa — of Jazushi Surry Hills and Ichoume Darling Harbour — curates a whisky highball programme that spans every conceivable flavour. The jazz-infused soundtrack keeps the mood elevated without pretension, perfectly suited to a long lunch or an extended post-work session. No BYO; a 10% Saturday and public holiday surcharge applies.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Chef Yutaro Takashima's 20-plus years of Japanese culinary training underpin a kushikatsu execution — airy panko crust, precisely timed frying — that is authentic rather than approximated.
- Yuki Ishikawa's whisky highball programme, covering every flavour profile, elevates the drinks offering well beyond a typical izakaya beverage list.
- The counter dining format places guests directly in the culinary action, creating the intimate cook-and-guest conversation central to Japanese counter culture.
- As a sister venue to the beloved Jazushi, Koromo benefits from an established reputation for Japanese hospitality and creative, sake-forward entertaining.
