About
Otosan — meaning 'father' in Japanese — is a true neighbourhood izakaya in Rome's Trieste district, serving the homely, robust flavours of the Kansai region. Chef Aki Kobayashi leads the hot kitchen while Maestro Fumio Saito, with over three decades of experience, handles sushi. The menu centres on dishes rarely seen elsewhere in Rome: doteyaki (beef offal in miso), kakuni (braised pork belly), okonomiyaki and rich regional ramen. Sister restaurants Okasan and Hiromi Cake round out the family's Japanese dining group, making this trio the most cohesive authentic Japanese operation in the city.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Authentic Kansai regional cooking — okonomiyaki, doteyaki and kakuni rarely found in Rome
- Two Japanese chefs with decades of combined experience
- Part of Rome's most authentic Japanese restaurant family (with Okasan and Hiromi Cake)
- Open daily for both lunch and dinner in a welcoming neighbourhood setting
