About
Koji Nakai opened Ie Koji — 'ie' meaning 'house' in Japanese — in 2024 as a more casual companion to his Nakai restaurant and the Kiwami omakase room. Reporter Gourmet praised it as a restaurant that 'won over Romans' with its authentic izakaya spirit: an all-sake wine list (no grapes anywhere on the menu), homemade tofu, hand-rolled soba, and crowd-favourite katsu sando made with proper Japanese-style deep-fried cutlet. Gambero Rosso acknowledged it as one of Rome's rare genuine izakaya — a category the guide had struggled to recognise in the Italian capital until Nakai's opening.
Why it's on Washoku Guide

- All-sake wine list — no conventional wine, fully committed to Japanese drinking culture
- Homemade tofu and hand-rolled soba made fresh on premises
- The most accessible format in Koji Nakai's growing Rome restaurant group
