About
Opened in 2013 by a partnership of four Japanese Boston residents — Manabu Ito and Taiji Mineo (co-owners of Sapporo Ramen), Kentaro 'Chiki-san' Suzuki (former sushi chef at Ebi Sushi), and yakitori chef Sho Inoue (formerly of Yakitori Zai) — Izakaya Ittoku is one of the most Japanese-owner-dense restaurants in the Boston area. Originally in Allston/Brighton, the izakaya relocated to Porter Square (1815 Massachusetts Ave) where it continues to serve a menu of yakitori skewers, Japanese small plates, sake, shochu, and cocktails every night it is open. The restaurant makes reservations on weekdays through the website and operates on a walk-in basis on Fridays and Saturdays. The r/boston community consistently cites Ittoku as one of the most authentically Japanese experiences in Cambridge.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
  • Four Japanese co-owners from different Japanese culinary backgrounds — a genuine community venture, not a solo chef concept.
  • Yakitori from a specialist (Sho Inoue, formerly of Yakitori Zai) alongside proper sushi-trained Japanese small-plate cooking.
  • One of Porter Square's most established Japanese night spots, embedded in Cambridge's Japanese expat community since 2013.
  • Weekday reservations and weekend walk-in format creates both accessibility and the spontaneous energy of a real Japanese izakaya.

Confirmed authentic: Japanese-owned by four Japanese partners. Founded 2013. Relocated to Porter Square. Reservations via website on select nights.
