About
Gantetsu-Ya occupies a cozy spot inside Brookline's Coolidge Corner Arcade Building, where chef-owner Ken Iwaoka — a Tokyo native with two decades in New England — dedicates the entire menu to just two Japanese street foods done right. His takoyaki, made with octopus and drizzled with bonito flakes, and his layered okonomiyaki replicate the flavors he grew up eating in Tokyo. Iwaoka also operates the neighboring Ganko Ittetsu Ramen, giving Gantetsu-Ya the backing of a proven Japanese culinary tradition. The no-frills counter keeps quality above all else, making it one of Boston's most focused authentic Japanese experiences.
