About
Mikan Japanese Restaurant traces its origins to downtown Miami in 1996, when Seiji 'Ike' Ikemizu — born and raised in Tokunoshima, Japan, with formative kitchen experience in Tokyo hotel restaurants — opened his first South Florida location. After 18 years in downtown Miami, Ikemizu relocated Mikan to its current Pembroke Pines home at 12502 Pines Blvd, where the restaurant has continued as a beloved community anchor. The menu is built around handmade sushi and sashimi, teishoku-style bento lunch sets, katsu curry, pork yaki soba, and an array of traditional Japanese small plates. TripAdvisor reviewers consistently note: 'Authentic Japanese food, cooked by real Japanese. Not cooked by other nationality.' The simple, elegant space and attentive service reflect Ikemizu's Tokyo hotel training and pride in his craft.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
  • Chef Seiji Ikemizu's background — born in Tokunoshima, trained in Tokyo hotel kitchens — delivers a level of Japanese authenticity rarely found in suburban South Florida.
  • Teishoku bento lunch sets, available Tuesday through Sunday until 3 PM, provide one of the best-value authentic Japanese lunch experiences in Broward County.
  • Katsu curry, pork yaki soba, and hand-roll menus reflect a genuine Japanese home-cooking tradition that most South Florida Japanese restaurants overlook.
  • Nearly 30 years of unbroken Japanese ownership at the same concept is a record of sustained quality that speaks louder than any single review.
