About
Katsuya South Beach opened in 2012 at SLS Hotel South Beach as part of the concept created by Chef Katsuya Uechi, who grew up in Okinawa and set a new standard for Japanese-inspired cuisine in America. Designed by Philippe Starck, the restaurant won a devoted following for its signature dishes — above all the Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna and Miso Black Cod — and ranks among Miami's most recognized Japanese restaurants. In 2025 the location closed temporarily; a reopening has not been ruled out.

Reported temporarily closed as of May/July 2025 (Yelp: TEMP. CLOSED). No confirmed reopening date as of April 2026.
