Kamitora ('God Tiger') was founded in Osaka in 2007 by Juryo Kenta, inspired by the Hanshin Tigers baseball team, and chose Hong Kong for its first overseas outpost. The Wan Chai counter serves a rich, creamy Osaka-style tonkotsu that faithfully mirrors the spirit of a no-frills Japanese neighbourhood ramen shop.

About
Kamitora's name and identity are rooted in Osaka's working-class baseball culture — the Hanshin Tigers fanbase that gathers in izakayas and ramen shops to celebrate and commiserate. Founder Juryo Kenta built the brand around an accessible, deeply satisfying tonkotsu broth that balances the richness of Hakata pork-bone with the bolder seasoning preferences of Osaka palates. Confirmed as a Japanese-origin Osaka chain by the South China Morning Post, Kamitora's Hong Kong branch in Wan Chai operates from a compact ground-floor space in the Antung Building, maintaining the low-key, functional aesthetic of the original Osaka shops. The Wan Chai location, near exit B2 of the MTR station, caters to the neighbourhood's dense mix of office workers and evening diners seeking an affordable, satisfying bowl. Limited lunch and dinner hours reflect the kitchen's commitment to serving at peak freshness rather than running extended service.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Kamitora's Osaka tonkotsu is a distinct regional variation from the more common Hakata style, offering Hong Kong diners a flavour profile associated with Japan's most passionate food city.
- As an Osaka baseball-culture institution making its first international appearance in Hong Kong, Kamitora carries an authenticity that purpose-built overseas ramen concepts cannot replicate.
- Among the lowest-priced authentic Japanese ramen options in Wan Chai, Kamitora delivers genuine quality without the premium cost of newer ramen brands.
Founded 2007, Osaka, by Juryo Kenta ('God Tiger', Hanshin Tigers inspiration). First overseas branch HK, Wan Chai. Confirmed Japanese-origin Osaka chain by SCMP. Active as of August 2024.
