About
Born from a chance reunion in Hong Kong years after the three Japanese co-founders first met in Sydney, Enishi brings an intimate, story-driven approach to teppanyaki omakase. Chef Toru Takano, with over 30 years of teppanyaki training in Tokyo's finest establishments, leads the kitchen alongside his wife Ami Hamasaki at a counter that seats fewer than 20 guests. The menu weaves personal narratives into each course — Miyagi oysters from Sato's home prefecture, Ami's signature ikura miso, and pot rice based on Toru's mother's recipe. Premium ingredients are sourced directly from Japan, and curated sake pairings elevate the experience further. Three omakase tiers (Kizuna, Tunagu, Tsugi) allow guests to choose their depth of immersion.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- One of Hong Kong's only truly Japanese-chef-owned teppanyaki omakase restaurants, where all three co-founders are Japanese nationals cooking nightly.
- Each course carries a personal backstory — from hometown ingredients to family recipes — making the meal as emotionally engaging as it is delicious.
- The 10-seat counter format places you directly in front of the chefs, offering a rare front-row view of masterful teppan technique.
- An exclusive sake programme, curated to match each teppanyaki course, includes labels rarely available outside Japan.
Tripadvisor has a duplicate closed listing for an older entry; the active restaurant at the same address has reviews through June 2025 confirming it is open. Official website confirms current daily hours.
