About
Noriki and Misa Tamura left Tokyo and arrived in Vancouver in 2005, initially planning to sell crepes before city bylaws redirected them to hot dogs. The result — a Japanese-topped hot dog with Kurobuta pork sausages, teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, seaweed, and katsuobushi flakes — became one of Vancouver's most celebrated food innovations. Anthony Bourdain featured Japadog on his show, cementing its global reputation. What began as a single street cart at Burrard and Smithe has grown into a multi-location Metro Vancouver operation with a flagship Robson Street store, multiple food trailers, and international recognition. The menu showcases authentic Japanese ingredients sourced from Japan — including Kurobuta pork and kobe beef — expressing a genuinely Japanese-owned food culture that transcends the hot dog format.
