About
Yamagoya traces its origins to 1969, when founder Masatoshi Ogata — a lorry driver with a passion for ramen — opened his first shack in Fukuoka, Japan, the birthplace of Hakata-style tonkotsu broth. Three generations of family recipes later, the brand arrived in London following a successful pop-up on Shaftesbury Avenue, opening its permanent home on The Cut near Waterloo in 2017. The menu is built around Ogata's signature tonkotsu, with handmade noodles and a range of donburi and gyoza alongside the celebrated 'raindrop cake' dessert. The location — a short walk from both the Old Vic and Young Vic — has made it a favourite pre- and post-theatre destination. Order at the counter and eat in or take away.
