About
Shoryu Kensington brings Tak Tokumine's Fukuoka-inspired Hakata ramen to one of London's most prestigious shopping streets, complete with alfresco seating that makes it a natural stop after visiting the Design Museum or the Royal Albert Hall. The branch opened in 2022 and maintains the brand's founding promise: a 12-hour pork-bone broth developed by Hakata-born executive chef Kanji Furukawa, served with thin straight noodles, premium Japanese spirits and seasonal sake cocktails. Tokumine, originally from Fukuoka city, founded the Japan Centre Group and its Shoryu ramen brand in 2012 with an explicit mission to champion his home region's signature dish; the Michelin Guide recognised the group's quality for four consecutive years.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Alfresco dining on Kensington High Street — rare for a ramen bar
- Same Fukuoka-origin Hakata tonkotsu recipe as the 2012 flagship
- Near the Design Museum and Royal Albert Hall — ideal cultural day pairing
- Seasonal sake cocktails and premium Japanese spirits
