About
Tokyoya Kafe is one of Istanbul's most heartfelt Japanese dining stories: Tokyo-born Kohey Muranaga relocated to Istanbul specifically because he saw a gap in authentic Japanese cuisine in the Kadıköy district. Profiled in Türkiye Today in July 2024, Muranaga-san also served as a Japanese-language interpreter for the Japanese earthquake relief team in Kahramanmaraş in 2023, illustrating his deep personal ties between Japan and Turkey. The menu is rooted in everyday Japanese cooking – donburi rice bowls, gyoza, karaage, miso soup, and set meals – with the care and precision of someone who grew up eating these dishes in Tokyo. With a Google rating of 4.5 stars and a devoted local following, Tokyoya Kafe also operates a second location in Ümraniye.
