About
Sushi Haru was conceived by Black Sheep Restaurants as Hong Kong's most intimate Japanese omakase offering when it first opened in 2020 and was relaunched with chef Hirokuni Shiga in September 2022. Shiga is a Sendai native whose career includes stints in Japan, Australia, Europe, and China, and his Edomae technique is informed by a broad culinary fluency that makes each menu simultaneously rigorous and expressive. The restaurant can only be reached by passing through Black Sheep's sister teppanyaki concept Crown Super Deluxe, giving it an almost hidden character that intensifies the sense of occasion. At HKD 2,488 per person, the omakase menu draws on Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Tokyo seafood merchants for its fish program. As of early 2025, the restaurant entered a temporary pause; its Instagram account confirms the team intends to return, and the phone line remains active. The restaurant holds its listing and should be checked before booking.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Chef Hirokuni Shiga's Sendai upbringing and multi-continent career bring a rare breadth of perspective to a deeply classical Edomae omakase format.
- Eight seats, a hidden mezzanine entrance through a sister restaurant, and prepayment-required booking make this one of Central's most dramatic dining experiences.
- Black Sheep Restaurants' operational excellence means service standards match the quality of the chef's technique throughout the meal.
- A seafood program drawing on Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Tokyo purveyors ensures seasonal variety and consistent freshness at every service.
Currently temporarily paused as of early 2025. Instagram (@sushiharuhk) states 'The City's Finest Edomae-style Sushi Will Return Soon.' Verify availability before booking. Phone +852 2111 1450.
