About
L'Izakaya Dassai by Yannick Alléno opened as part of Beaupassage, the curated food and art passage carved into a Haussmann block in the 7th arrondissement. The concept unites Alléno's 30-year passion for Japan with the expertise of Asahi Shuzo, the Japanese corporate owner of the Dassai sake brand — one of Japan's most internationally celebrated sake houses. The menu is a faithful, polished izakaya roster: tempura, teriyaki, tofu, sashimi, chirashi, soba, karaage, dashimaki, and handrolls, with a curry option at lunch, all designed to be washed down with Dassai sakes. The space features an expansive L-shaped terrace opening onto the courtyard, raw concrete walls decorated with black-and-white manga art, and an open kitchen. Listed in the Michelin Guide. Average tasting menu around €69; à la carte broadly accessible. Open seven days, including Sundays for lunch.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- A Michelin Guide-listed collaboration between a three-star French chef and Japan's most celebrated sake house (Dassai / Asahi Shuzo).
- One of Paris's only true izakayas with an extensive Dassai sake program presented by knowledgeable staff.
- The Beaupassage setting — a quiet, plant-filled courtyard with a large terrace — is one of the most pleasant spots to eat in the 7th arrondissement.
- Open Sunday lunchtimes and with a broad accessible price range (€20–70 pp), making it one of the most flexible quality Japanese addresses in the city.
Michelin Guide listed. Open Monday for lunch and dinner (unlike most fine-dining peers). Sunday lunch available. No Japanese head chef on record; Japanese cultural and culinary direction guided by Dassai/Asahi Shuzo partnership. For strict 'Japanese-led kitchen' authenticity, note this is a French-chef-led izakaya with Japanese curatorial partnership.
