About
YŌSO — meaning 'element' in Japanese — earned its first Michelin star in February 2025 for a kaiseki-ryori-inspired omakase experience of exceptional precision. Chef-owner Habner Gomes is Brazilian, but Brazil hosts the world's second-largest Japanese diaspora; he has spent nearly a decade studying Japanese culinary tradition with singular focus. At just 9 seats, the counter sits at the centre of an experience where the menu changes daily according to the seasons and what Gomes judges to be at its peak. The restaurant sits at two sittings per day (13:00 and 20:00), Tuesday through Saturday, with reservations essential.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
  • Michelin 1 Star awarded 2025 — Lisbon's newest starred Japanese dining experience
  • Daily-changing kaiseki-inspired menu: no two visits are the same
  • Just 9 seats — among Europe's smallest and most intimate Michelin-starred restaurants
  • A decade of focused Japanese culinary study behind every dish

Chef is Brazilian, not Japanese. Included because Michelin 1 Star (Feb 2025) and nearly a decade exclusively devoted to Japanese kaiseki establishes strong traditional approach.
