About
Opened in May 2022, Hachi Kare-ya filled a genuine gap in Lisbon's Japanese restaurant landscape: Japanese curry (kare) is among Japan's most beloved everyday dishes, yet remained virtually absent from European menus. Chef Henrique Pan developed all recipes from firsthand research in Japan, staying true to the thick, mildly sweet character of Japanese curry (distinct from Indian or Thai varieties) while adapting to available local ingredients. The menu centres on kare rice bowls, tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlets) and omurice (omelette rice), served at two compact locations. The affordable prices and showcooking format have made both sites popular with local regulars.
