About
Rokko has anchored downtown Sunnyvale's Frances Street dining district for over 15 years, founded by Japanese restaurateur Yasumitsu Yamamoto, whose restaurant group also includes Fugetsu, Ramen Seas, Dan Izakaya, and Kahoo Ramen. After a refurbishment, the restaurant re-emerged with a modernized menu and interior, maintaining its reputation for fresh sashimi, generous donburi, and traditional izakaya small plates. The signature Deluxe Meshi — seared salmon, unagi, fish roe, and a poached egg over crispy skillet rice — is among the most beloved dishes on the menu. Fugetsu's okonomiyaki menu is available within the same space, making Rokko one of the only restaurants in Silicon Valley to offer both Japanese tapas and Osaka street food under one roof.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
  • The Deluxe Meshi rice bowl — seared salmon, unagi, ikura, and poached egg — is one of Sunnyvale's most celebrated comfort dishes at outstanding value.
  • Rokko and co-located Fugetsu together offer one of the most complete Japanese dining menus on a single block in Silicon Valley.
  • Fresh sashimi portions consistently impress local regulars, who note fish quality comparable to much pricier destinations.
  • A 15-year track record as a downtown Sunnyvale institution, supported by the same Japanese restaurant group that brought Fugetsu and Orenchi Ramen to the Bay Area.

Fugetsu okonomiyaki is available within the same restaurant and can be ordered alongside the Rokko menu. Walk-ins and reservations both accepted. — Format: Japanese tapas restaurant. Authenticity: CEO Yasumitsu Yamamoto is Japanese (lives Santa Clara); business manager Maki Y. and manager Itsuka K. are both Japanese — a fully Japanese-operated restaurant group behind multiple Bay Area concepts including Fugetsu and Orenchi Ramen.
