About
Toritetsu launched its first American location at Mitsuwa Marketplace in Arlington Heights in July 2019, marking the only place in the United States to experience the Tokyo chain's yakitori. With more than 70 locations across Japan, Toritetsu has refined its recipe for precisely seasoned skewers—thigh, pork belly, corn, chicken skin, tsukune—cooked over high-heat charcoal in the style perfected in the izakaya lanes of Tokyo's residential districts. The counter operation inside Mitsuwa strips away any distraction: order at the window, watch the cook, eat immediately. The surrounding marketplace offers Japanese groceries, a bakery, and other food-court stalls, making the visit a full Japanese cultural immersion. Eater Chicago called it a 'Tokyo Yakitori Chain's First U.S. Shop' at its 2019 opening.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
  • The only US location of a 70-outlet Tokyo yakitori chain, offering authentic charcoal-grilled skewers prepared to the same specifications as in Japan.
  • Embedded inside Mitsuwa Marketplace—the largest Japanese grocery retail environment in the Chicago area—creating a fully immersive Japanese market experience.
  • Exceptional value: fresh-cooked yakitori at Japanese fast-casual prices in an authentic market setting unavailable anywhere else in the Chicago region.

First and only US location. Opened July 2019 at Mitsuwa. Tokyo-based parent with 70+ Japan locations confirmed by Eater Chicago (2019). Phone listed is Mitsuwa main line as Toritetsu has no separate listing.
