About
Chef-owner Shigekazu Tateno came to the US from Japan in 1997 and, over 18 years, built Yama Izakaya & Sushi into one of the DFW area's most trusted Japanese restaurant groups, now spanning four locations including Carrollton, Dallas, Preston, and Legacy in Plano. The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth hosted a sushi class at Yama led by Tateno himself in October 2025, recognizing him as the 'Japanese chef' at the helm. The menu offers an extensive range of Japanese izakaya dishes — sashimi, yakitori, tempura, ramen, and hot pots — alongside a full sake and cocktail menu. Notably, the Carrollton location stays open until 2am most nights, making it one of the few authentic Japanese options for late-night Dallas dining.
