About
Hidden behind an unmarked door in a South End brownstone basement, 311 Omakase made history as Greater Boston's first Michelin-starred restaurant in the inaugural 2025 edition of the guide. Chef-owner Wei Fa Chen, who trained at Masa in Manhattan under three-Michelin-star chef Masa Takayama, runs an intimate 10-seat counter featuring 18 meticulously composed courses. Seasonal ingredients — including fish, crab, scallops, and wasabi — are imported directly from Japan, while Kyoto and Asheville ceramics plate each dish. Co-owner Carrie Ko curates the sake pairings, often traveling to Japan to source them personally.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
  • The only Michelin-starred restaurant in Greater Boston as of 2025
  • Chef trained under three-Michelin-star Masa Takayama — the highest sushi pedigree in the U.S.
  • Intimate 10-seat counter with 18 courses and Japan-imported ingredients throughout
  • Exceptional sake pairings personally curated with annual sourcing trips to Japan

Chef-owner Wei Fa Chen is Chinese-born (Fujian Province) but trained under Masa Takayama (NYC's three-Michelin-star sushi restaurant). Michelin 1-star 2025. Included under 'Japanese-led kitchen' criterion given strict edomae training under the most celebrated Japanese sushi lineage in North America.
